Unfortunately, our knowledge of how babies build immunity in our pathogen-rich world is sketchy at best. However, Anjana Ahuja explains that a 2022 study determining the widely believed hypothesis of the rebound effect is a myth, could help us strike a balance between protecting children from a severe disease while allowing immunity-inducing, low-level exposure.
